Scholarship Assistance : $210,000 Grant Approved for Virginia Western
In FRANKLIN COUNTY, the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission has given a $210,000 grant to the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation to help students with scholarships for Franklin County students for 2016-17 college sessions.
Funds will support students participating in Virginia Western’s Community College Access Program (CCAP), which provides up to two years of full-time tuition at no cost to students who meet program requirements.

Tobacco Commission scholarships will be assisting students searching for credential training in high-development job options such as welding and industrial machining.

Duration of the grant
The 2016-17 grant marks the fifth consecutive year of Tobacco Commission help for Virginia Western students from Franklin County.

About Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission
The Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission is a body made by the 1999 General Assembly with 28 members. Its objective is the marketing of economic growth and improvement in tobacco-dependent areas, using continues of the nationwide tobacco agreement. To date, the Commission has granted 1,913 grants totaling more than $1 billion throughout the tobacco area of the Commonwealth, and has offered $309 million in indemnification expenses to tobacco growers and quota owners.
